The Bridge to Crafts Careers program teaches students masonry restoration in Green-Wood Cemetery, an iconic Brooklyn landscape. Amid the blooming trees, 13 students practice essential construction skills, aided by the World Monuments Fund and Opportunities for a Better Tomorrow. The program includes comprehensive training in work safety leading to OSHA certification. Students are paid during the 10-week course and benefit from specialized workshops and professional insights. Each class addresses different cemetery restoration needs, enriching students' experiences and skills for future construction careers.
"This is about teaching and learning, not just about getting work done," instructor Neela Wickremsinghe emphasized, highlighting the programâs focus on education alongside practical experience.
