This Kitchen Island Decision Saved Me Thousands on My Kitchen Renovation
Briefly

When renovating their 1970s ranch house, the couple prioritized a budget, directing most funds toward the kitchen. Their goal was to create an open-concept space that harmonized with modern aesthetics. They enhanced the kitchen with a stylish backsplash using white textured tiles in a herringbone pattern, which elevated the design. While they invested significantly in countertops and cabinets, they opted for an affordable IKEA island instead of a custom-built one, showcasing a balanced approach to design and expense.
We knew we needed a kitchen island for added storage, counter space, and as a place for people to gather around, but instead of buying matching cabinets and quartz countertops to install, we chose to buy a ready-made island, not built-in.
We splurged on the kitchen's backsplash with white textured tiles, and opted for a herringbone pattern to add visual movement and height. This was pricey because the herringbone pattern was more labor-intensive for our contractor to cut and install compared to a traditional subway tile pattern.
