Pakistan and Afghanistan have agreed to an immediate ceasefire after a week of deadly clashes along their border, as the ties between the two South Asian neighbours plunged to their lowest point since the Taliban returned to power in 2021. Both countries agreed to stop fighting and work towards lasting peace and stability after peace talks in Doha, the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Sunday, about the deal it mediated alongside Turkiye.

State-backed China Eastern Airlines will resume Shanghai-Delhi flights from November 9, the airline's website shows, as China and India resume direct air links amid a diplomatic thaw, largely triggered by aggressive United States trade policies, after a five-year freeze. The flights will operate three times a week on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays, the airline's online ticket sales platform showed on Saturday.

Pakistan has carried out air strikes in Afghanistan's southern province of Kandahar, locals told RFE/RL's Radio Azadi, as fresh fighting erupted between the neighbors. Explosions were also heard in Kabul, according to city residents who spoke to Radio Azadi. Unverified footage on social media appeared to show plumes of smoke rising into the sky in the Afghan capital. The cause of the explosions was not immediately clear.

An estimated 38,000 civilians in Cambodia and almost 140,000 in Thailand reported to have fled fighting on their shared border.
