With compact stores and ridiculously low costs, Grocery Outlet Bargain Market gives competitors like Aldi and Trader Joe's a run for their money. If you're from the West Coast or the Mid-Atlantic areas of the U.S., you're likely already familiar with this peculiar grocery gem. The chain currently operates over 500 stores mainly in these regions of the country, and it's continuing to grow - largely thanks to its too-good-to-be-true prices.

Like Aldi's locations, Grocery Outlet stores tend to be smaller than traditional supermarkets and emphasize low prices. But the California chain doesn't rely solely on store brands to cut costs: Like T.J. Maxx, it often sells products that its competitors - or the brands that make them - can't or don't want to sell themselves. Those can include products that are being discontinued by their manufacturer or items that were meant for other industries.

Move over, bodegas and overpriced "gourmet" markets-discount darling Aldi is planting its flag in the middle of Manhattan. The German grocer just signed a lease for a 25,000-square-foot flagship at The Ellery, a shiny new luxury tower on West 42nd Street between Eighth and Ninth Avenues. Doors are expected to swing open in 2026, making it Aldi's first-ever central Manhattan location (sorry, East Harlem, you no longer hold the bragging rights alone).
