Ahead of the Celtics' season opener Wednesday, Brown served as a pre-audition guest judge as part of comedian Druski's "Coulda Been Records" Boston auditions. Brown particpated in a role similar to that of Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson -- who made an appearance in May -- as the decision-maker to determine if contestants should advance to the next round of their audition for the record label: to get in front of Druski, the fictional label's CEO.
Backstage, the "Bape" rapper spoke with VIBE about teaming up with fellow viral sensation, Druski, the hold he still has on Hip-Hop, and his newest surprise album. "That's my boy," he said with a grin about the social media comedian. "I've been rocking with Druski... he's funny as hell. When he reached out, at first, it was just one show... we rocked out in Atlanta, and it was so crazy, we knew we had to run the whole tour."
The skit, parodying " that guy who is just proud to be AMERICAN," has gone megaviral for Druski's depiction of a white Southern man having the time of his life at a NASCAR race. It's notable for not only the access required to film next to a race, but also for the complete transformation involved: Druski, a Black man, appears as a white man, complete with a farmer's sunburn, mullet, and a swath of patriotic tattoos.
