Police sources say a Con Edison worker was electrocuted in East Flatbush Wednesday. Officers found the 47-year-old man just after 10:30 a.m. near Kings Highway and Avenue D. The FDNY says the man went into cardiac arrest and EMS performed CPR before taking him to One Brooklyn Health-Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center. He was initially listed in critical condition but is now expected to recover, according to police.

As scores of students swarmed out of their Milpitas elementary school on a recent afternoon, a lone bald eagle perched high above them in a redwood tree - only occasionally looking down on the after-school ruckus, training his eyes on the grassy hills along the western horizon. The week before, his mate was electrocuted on nearby power lines operated by PG&E.

First off, birds really like sitting on elevated lines, whether those are power lines, telecommunication wires or cable lines. The high wires provide an excellent vantage point for surveying the area, giving them a bird's eye view of the territory. From there, they can look around for food and watch out for predators. The lines are also a convenient spot for taking a rest and as there are other birds on the line, a chance to converse.

The FDNY scuba team was dispatched to the first flood at a home on Kingston Avenue near Rutland Road in Flatbush, Brooklyn shortly after 4 p.m., police said. Inside the flooded basement, firefighters found a man who sources said had made it out of his home, but rushed back inside to save his dogs. Video captured by a passerby showed the FDNY and members of the scuba team carrying the victim's limp body out of the apartment building.

A 25-year-old man is in serious condition after being electrocuted on the PATH tracks in Hoboken while attempting to retrieve his dropped phone.
