GRRL's latest release, Beetle, blends experimental digital sounds with club music, showcasing innovative textures and pristine sound design.
When he's not making proggy folk as a solo artist, Richard Dawson gets his skronk on as part of proggy new-wave art-rock group Hen Ogledd. Despite my attempts to do so in the previous sentence, the band are hard to succinctly describe: they can pivot from warm synthpop to mossy faerie folk to baggy Manchester shuffle beats to dense prog and even flashes of hip hop. Hen Ogledd are weird, but also welcoming.
If Big Hotel felt like the band homing in on their prowess and energy, Desert So Green explores the limits of their sound, seeing what new styles they can dive into, deconstruct, and rebuild. The result is both the band's most experimental and cohesive record to date, a mass of cosmic krautrock, dreary ambient synths, and eerie avant-garde touches that guarantee any conventional song structure or form could never take root.
Today marks a defining moment for the rising star, singer-songwriter, and performance artist Molly Mogul as she unveils her new single "Run," offering a tantalising taste of her forthcoming debut album set to drop this spring. This track serves as an invitation into a vibrant new chapter for the German artist, featuring an entrancing blend of pop, experimental soundscapes, and movement-based storytelling.
Earlier this week, Knockdown Center announced the first of two shows in March that are part of their Outline series. They've now announced the second, which happens March 21 and is headlined by former black midi frontman Geordie Greep, plus the duo of Julianna Barwick & Mary Lattimore, producer and DJ Delroy Edwards (live), and experimental UK punk group Still House Plants. Tickets are on sale.
The second single from Amand Hammer and The Alchemist's upcoming collaborative LP, Mercy, "Calypso Gene" is yet another hard-hitting, jazz-tinged, smoky hip-hop track that manages to feel urgent despite its laid-back vibe. After billy woods and E L U C I D trade verses over spicy piano chords and shuffling percussion, Silka and Cleo Reed sing a final refrain as the track takes a psychedelic turn. It's as effective as it is wonderful on the ears.
The dual-format release of NEVER ENOUGH, combining an album with a compelling visual film, showcases Turnstile's commitment to bold artistic expression.
