Miles Clark has always lived for the mountains. At 46 years old, he has carved out a life as a pro skier and mountain guide, chasing peaks and purpose across the globe. But for over a decade, one goal still loomed over him: to ski 300 days in a single year. Weather, injuries, and life always got in the way-until everything changed.
The inaugural Wexford French Film Festival which was officially launched by the French Embassy in Ireland and Screen Wexford in collaboration with Alliance Française Waterford/Wexford, The Picture House - Wexford Film Society has been hailed as a great success, with plans already in the works for another.
The film is a French-Japanese co-production about the intimate friendship between Marie-Louise (Virginie Efira), the director of a senior care facility in the Paris suburbs, and Mari (Tao Okamoto), a Japanese theater director. Marie-Louise is a workaholic who's been putting tremendous effort into instituting a new care protocol at the facility called Humanitude, a real-life program that instructs care workers in giving greater attention to each individual patient, while Mari is staging an experimental production about Franco Basaglia, an Italian psychiatrist who abolished "mancomio," or psychiatric asylums.
In its sixth year, New York City's Prismatic Ground festival doesn't show any signs of rote predictability. Founder and programmer Inney Prakash has used the festival, which most recently took place from April 29 through May 3, to foreground global voices in the contemporary avant-garde. He likens his curatorial process to "conducting a piece of music or slaloming down a mountain," but otherwise prefers to let the viewer parse threads and connections between the films he programs across four separate waves.
