Restoration is not only about building. Wright's philosophy is that everything about this place is part of the design, but sometimes objects are not the emphasis of the restoration story. We are recreating the whole vision that Wright had, not only by putting all the pieces of the puzzle of the building together, but reintegrating those objects into the story.
For instance, the Louvre did not own a single video artwork until this year, when Mohamed Bourouissa's piece documenting the Tuileries Garden made its way into the collection. Acquisitions also illustrate networks of power and exchange in the art world. One of Tate Modern's big gets, a stunning Joan Mitchell triptych, came from none other than Miami-based developer and museum founder Jorge Pérez and his wife Darlene.
In a December 8 TikTok video shared by @Grace.lvgp, the creator gives her followers an inside look at "the sick twisted reality of cleaning the windows in a Frank Lloyd Wright home." While Wright was known for his prairie-style buildings' elaborate window designs, many of which featured gorgeous stained glass and intricate geometric shapes, these so-called "light screens" might be more decorative than practical for homeowners.
They were a frequent fixture of the residential homes he designed, sometimes placing even three or four fireplaces within a single home. As Wright once said, "the hearth is the psychological center of the home," knowing that it was a place where people naturally gathered around and psyches could be comforted and uplifted.
From October 4th, 2025, to January 25th, 2026, the Museum of Wisconsin Art (MOWA) presents Frank Lloyd Wright: Modern Chair Design, the first exhibition to treat the architect's furniture as essential to his vision. Bringing together more than 40 chairs, many never exhibited before, alongside sketches, photographs, digital renderings, and newly constructed works, the show reveals how Wright's furniture was integral to the environments he created.
When Frank Lloyd Wright accepted a commission to design what would become the Ennis House, a 6,000-square-foot residence nestled in the hills of Los Feliz, California, he had no idea he was crafting an eventual film star. Having made more than 80 onscreen appearances, the home is now a veritable Hollywood icon and has been featured Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Day of the Locust, and Blade Runner, among others.
