Well, you actually don't have to spend a load of cash - or any at all - to keep the young'uns active and occupied. There are a ton of ways to do with kids in New York for free that'll wear them out enough to conk out when you get back to your hotel room - and buy you an hour or two to work in a tipple at the bar, finally.

It's no secret that New York City is one of the most expensive places to visit in the U.S., and in this day and age, you have to go out of your way to find activities (especially cultural ones) with a "free" price tag. Luckily, this weekend, the city hosts its annual festival, catering to locals and tourists alike. Open House New York, taking place this year from October 17-19, is a popular event featuring behind-the-scenes tours and special activities at more than 300 different destinations.

This year's theme is the magical world of insects, which means you can expect to find gigantic bees, ladybugs and more in the parade and an "insect opera" titled "Vespa: A Girl and Her Pet Wasp."

This summer, Hudson Yards hosts free outdoor fitness classes, concerts, movies, and family events, creating exciting community engagement and recreational activities for all.
