Kirkwood has had a pretty solid past few days, seeing 42 inches of snow through the past 7 days, 31 of which fell in the past 48 hours. As of April 13th, Kirkwood has 5 lifts spinning with 45 of 84 trails open to skiers and snowboarders.

After more than a decade of planning, an overlooked side of the ski haven of Aspen, Colorado, will soon be revamped into a new base village. The proposed two-stage gondola will start in the base area, stop at the Merry-Go-Round restaurant, and continue to Cloud Nine Alpine Bistro, rising 2,700 vertical feet. This will significantly enhance uphill capacity out of the base area and provide skiing options on the upper mountain when the lower mountain is bare or melted out.

On paper, it is one of the best things that has ever happened to destination skiers. A single pass can unlock access to an enormous network of resorts across North America and beyond. It makes ski travel easier to justify, easier to plan, and far easier to sell to a group of friends trying to decide where to go.

Vail Mountain has recorded its lowest snowpack in 47 years, with just 67 inches of snow so far this season. It has been a tough season so far for many resorts located in the Rockies and out West. "We experienced one of the worst early-season snowfalls in the Western U.S. in over 30 years," Rob Katz, Chief Executive Officer, said in a press release. This has limited Vail Mountain and other resorts from opening new terrain and has decreased skier visits.
