Hardly Strictly Bluegrass -the annual free, three-day music festival at Golden Gate Park-each year presents a diverse range of music including its namesake bluegrass, but also a wide variety of American roots music like soul, rock, country, and folk. The festival's lineup extends to other genres as well, with recent years including acts in funk, world music, and indie blues, and this year's festival, for the big 25th anniversary, was no exception.
And they were all there, shining brightly, in honor of the one and only Emmylou Harris. Joan Baez, Bonnie Raitt, Lucinda Williams, Rodney Crowell, Allison Russell, Steve Earle, Shawn Colvin, Rosanne Cash, Sam Bush, Patty Griffin, Albert Lee, Margo Price, Buddy Miller and, yes, even the star of the evening herself Harris all performed during the charming and heartwarming A Tribute to Emmylou Harris & 25 Years of Hardly Strictly Bluegrass show.
The final acts have just been announced for next months' 25th anniversary Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival, with Wilco vocalist Jeff Tweedy added to a lineup that already included String Cheese Incident, Reverend Horton Heat, and Dengue Fever. It was pretty obvious as early as May of this year who a pretty large chunk of the artists playing would be at this year's 25th annual Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival (October 3-5), when they announced a night-before-the-festival Emmylou Harris tribune concert at The Masonic.
