U.S. immigration authorities on Thursday arrested in Miami the sister of the executive president of GAESA (Grupo de Administracion Empresarial S.A.), the Cuban military conglomerate. According to a statement released by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), the detainee, Adys Lastres Morera, sister of Ania Guillermina Lastres Morera, described as responsible for managing GAESA's internationally held illicit assets, had been a permanent resident since 2023. ICE said Lastres Morera had not applied for U.S. citizenship and will remain in custody until she is deported.
Some of them are violent, and some of these prosecutions might even survive - that is, if the affidavits used to obtain the arrests are accurate, as many (if not most) of the ones arising from Stephen Miller's invasions have not been. Some of these claimed assaults occurred three weeks before the charges were unsealed, the day of Renee Good's shooting, three weeks in which prosecutors chose not to present the charges to a grand jury.
In February 2025, three individuals, including Chávez, were indicted for their roles in this animal-fighting venture, which violated the federal Animal Welfare Act. Alongside HSI, the case involved multiple agencies, including the Potter County Sheriff's Office, Texas State Game Wardens, the Amarillo Police Department, the Texas Department of Public Safety, and Immigration and Customs Enforcement, which conducted the investigation, along with support from the Wild West Wildlife Rehabilitation Center.
