Creating character and improving function in an existing home is no easy feat - and it can definitely be hard on a budget. So it's no wonder that renters and homeowners alike turn to IKEA when they have big plans but modest funds, as the retailer has long proven its versatility in achieving whatever shoppers have in mind.
To do that, she reached for a classic: BILLY bookcases. But instead of leaving them as is, she decorated the doors with molding to give them a fluted wood look, added in glam new hardware, and (my favorite part!) topped the bookshelves with scalloped molding that looks at once sophisticated and a little whimsical, too. The finishing touch is, of course, the stunning new paint color: a chalky paint with a matte finish in a pale pinkish-purple color that's used on the walls, too.
When you picture an IKEA hack, you'll likely think of things like sleek BILLY built-ins or custom BESTA media units. For me, though, with limited time and budget, it's the little hacks made with IKEA marketplace finds that are the most fun. After all, IKEA's marketplace is a treasure trove of goodies with so much hacking potential - even on the tiniest of budgets. Case in point: IKEA's RÖRT cooking utensils that I turned into salad servers with just a little paint.
It seems like all the bathrooms I've ever had, big or small, have rarely had enough cabinetry. (Or is it just that I have too many toiletries?) Luckily, there are ways to add bathroom storage that don't rely on the built-ins that came with your house or apartment, whether you're dealing with more toiletries than your medicine cabinet can handle or some other storage woe.
