The jury is still out on how much and how soon GenAI will impact the legal profession, as I pointed out in a recent article. But one thing is certain: GenAI is affecting what people are revealing, the questions they're asking, and what advice they're receiving. The implications for lawyers, or perhaps more accurately, their clients, are downright scary. People are talking too much and getting wrong advice that's memorialized for future use and discovery I had sounded this alarm before. And now a recent Washington Post analysis of some 47,000 ChatGPT conversations validates many of these concerns in alarming ways.

About 260 sexual abuse lawsuits were paused when the Catholic Diocese of Santa Rosa filed for bankruptcy in 2023. That has been a frustration for survivors who want the actions of their abusers, and the failings of the powerful institution that obscured the crimes, dragged into the daylight. Meta is facing a court fight over documents and testimony in a landmark child safety case in New Mexico. In two recent motions, the New Mexico Attorney General's office alleged that Meta has refused to fully produce internal records about its AI chatbots, which reportedly engaged children and teenagers in sexualized conversations. The state also said Meta declined to consent to a subpoena for former company researcher Jason Sattizahn, who claimed that the company's legal team interfered with internal research on youth safety.
