MoMA PS1 celebrates its 50th anniversary with a free block party on April 18, featuring art, music, and community programming.
Times are hard, but don't believe the rumors about the death of the Bay Area art scene. Yes, art institutions and galleries are closing. Yes, the techies have taken over, outpricing artists and polluting culture with their AI inventions. But there's an inherent spirit of rebellion to the region that won't be quashed so easily, and an inspired community that fights for it every day.
The ball drop in Times Square also marked the end of the MetroCard; we live in an OMNY world now. How I'll miss that lime-green student MetroCard, with which I swiped my way into all kinds of adolescent misadventures. For all those feeling similarly sentimental - speaking as someone who, yes, once commuted on the V train - it's time for a visit to the New York Transit Museum.
The New York Art Book Fair (NYABF) returns in 2025 with an expanded vision and renewed energy, reclaiming its long-standing home at MoMA PS1. Scheduled for September 11 through September 14, this year's edition features more than 250 local and international artists' book publishers, along with an ambitious weekend of programs, installations, and performances. For publishers, artists, collectors, and enthusiasts alike, the fair is more than a marketplace-it is a cultural gathering that continues to shape conversations around contemporary art and independent publishing.
