The Chinese government has increased its appalling use of collective punishment against family members of peaceful activists from Hong Kong.

Amnesty’s secretary-general stated that the new Hong Kong section demonstrates ‘the resilience of our movement, our determination never to be silenced’ amid threats.

The sanctions, issued under a 2020 executive order, freeze assets of the sanctioned individuals in the US and prohibit American entities from financial transactions with them.
