A24's new film features a couple's dinner party that reveals underlying tensions and relationships, starring Olivia Wilde and Seth Rogen.
It's not hard to imagine why the project would attract so much attention, given the names attached to it. Starring and directed by Wilde, comes from a script written by Rashida Jones and Will McCormack and also stars Seth Rogen, Ed Norton, Penelope Cruz. The sexual rom-com is a remake of the Spanish language film Sentimental , and sees Rogen and Wilde play a married couple on the rocks who host a dinner party with a communicative and passionate couple portrayed by Norton and Cruz.
PARK CITY, Utah - As the opening credits to "The Invite" begin to roll, the audience sees Olivia Wilde stopping by Molinari Delicatessen for jamon. Then, Seth Rogen sits, despondent, in the auditorium of A.P. Giannini Middle School in the Outer Sunset before schlepping his folding bike onto BART. Finally, he pedals up a steep hill alongside cable car tracks and then drags his bike into an apartment with a funky tiled bathroom, which is just cramped enough to feel like San Francisco.
Listen to the spectacular nonchalance with which she says, "Fine, I'll fuck you, but you have to bring someone who will open your ass for me." Or when she passes Elliot off to an out-of-town associate, with a "Screw her real good, but don't let her penetrate you, she's not that close a friend." Erika's a great, outsize character, and she's also an avatar for Araki's many gleeful provocations.
The Sundance Film Festival has unveiled its massive 2026 slate, with a lineup that includes Olivia Wilde's directorial follow-up to her 2022 film Don't Worry Darling and a project starring Natalie Portman and Jenna Ortega about a gallerist attempting to sell a dead body at Art Basel. Starry narrative slate, aside, the lineup also includes a small but mighty group of music projects, including docs on Courtney Love ( Antiheroine)
