Rubbish could pile up in an area of east London over Christmas in a dispute at what bin collectors say is poor pay. GMB Union members voted by 97 per cent to take the industrial action against their employer FCC Environment, which provides the services on behalf of Waltham Forest Council. The strikes have been looming since the summer when outsourced workers rejected a 2.8 per cent increase, then a follow-up offer of 3.2 per cent.

This is disgraceful behaviour from a company making millions from London bus passengers. It shows an utter disregard for its workers and the hard work they do day in, day out.

With many Tate directors receiving six-figure pay packages and five-figure bonuses while staff are condemned to in-work poverty, it is no wonder we have seen such an overwhelming vote for strike action. Our members have rightly rejected another insulting pay offer from senior Tate management, and now stand ready to take strike action that will severely impact gallery operations.

Residents of a London borough face the threat of a bin strike after refuse workers in a pay dispute backed industrial action. The GMB union said it will now formally ballot members who work in Richmond, in the south west of the capital, on industrial action if contractor Serco does not bring forward a revised pay offer by Friday (October 24).
