A group of ranches and dairies in the Point Reyes National Seashore has about two months left to close down under an agreement with the Nature Conservancy. The federal park announced on Jan. 8, 2025, that six dairies and six beef ranches operating there would cease operations within 15 months following a confidential legal settlement with environmental organizations that had long sought to ban agricultural uses of the park.

MARIN COUNTY, Calif. (KGO) -- A dramatic cliffside rescue unfolded in the dark on the rugged coastline of Northern California as police and emergency crews coordinated the rescue of two stranded hikers stuck on a steep rock formation on Sunday evening. At approximately 7 p.m., CHP H-30 was requested by the Marin County Fire Department, along with the National Park Service and the Marin County Sheriff's Office, to respond to a cliff rescue just south of Pelican Lake, on the Point Reyes National Seashore coast.

The Point Reyes National Seashore encompasses just over 71,000 acres. It was established in 1962 thanks to the work of Clem Miller, a United States congressman from Marin County. Mount Wittenberg is the tallest mountain at 1,407 feet in elevation. Point Reyes Hill is 1,336 feet and Mount Vision is 1,282 feet. The San Andreas Fault separates the Point Reyes peninsula from the rest of Marin County.
