However, Mamdani didn't win simply because of who he is. He won because of what he did, the politics that his campaigns were based on - a platform that focuses on the cost of living, from utility bills to grocery bills to bus fares to child care to rent - and, more importantly, the feelings, the trust and cohesion generated in the network of people who organized with and for him.
On Saturday, October 18, more than 7 million people took to the streets in thousands of events across the country, proudly declaring that we have no kings in America. Aerial camera shots of throngs of people marching down the streets of Chicago, New York, Boston, and Atlanta gave me chills. But similar pictures coming out of Billings, Montana; Boise, Idaho; and Hammond, Louisiana (where Trump won in 2024), as well as Richmond, Kentucky (where he won the last three elections), gave me hope.
Listen, I don't know that he needs my advice. He has been a master and frankly he could do a MasterClass for all Democrats on communication. Whether you're talking about speaking with passion and heart and just talking to the working class, not worried about the billionaires, they're gonna be fine in fact, the better that the working-class does, the better they do.
