Career success predictability depends on how success is defined, with objective indicators like income and status differing from subjective personal fulfillment measures.
Yet, at least one time, it was. This is a story I heard from Dave Hannaman, who worked at an Army human resources organization when I met with him many years ago. (Dave died in 2021.) Dave had been in the Army, including a stint as a "tunnel rat" in Vietnam. He was one of the brave soldiers who would go down into the tunnels the Viet Cong had constructed and booby-trapped. He was that kind of guy.
1. Create predictability anchors, not just flexibility. When the world feels chaotic, people scan their environments for stability and safety cues. Identify one or two things that will not change this week-meeting cadence, response-time expectations, or decision processes-and name them explicitly. Predictability doesn't mean being rigid; it means offering a reliable foundation so teams can focus on problem-solving and collaboration. This steadiness becomes a form of trust, helping people stay engaged, resilient, and able to perform at their best.
Thermal modification is not a new invention, but its relevance has increased as expectations around performance, sustainability, and predictability have tightened. Developers, architects, and contractors are no longer just asking whether timber looks good or performs well initially. They want to know how it behaves after ten, twenty, or thirty years, and how much risk it introduces into a project once the scaffolding is gone.
The truth is, those seemingly innocent preferences about towel folding, dishwasher loading, or desk organization often reveal deeper patterns about how we relate to control in every aspect of our lives. And according to psychology, there are specific traits that tie these behaviors together in fascinating ways. 1) They need predictability in their environment to feel safe Have you ever met someone who gets anxious when their morning routine gets disrupted?

She demurs, but eternal ham Steven takes up the mantle and starts explaining the challenge to Jeff. They're going to be connected to a line and they have to put blocks spelling "IMMUNITY" on a spinning platform. Whoever finishes the word first wins.
