James Talarico, a Democratic Senate candidate in Texas, has raised a staggering $27 million so far this year, with California donors contributing just under $1.2 million to back his campaign - second only to Texas supporters among those donors whose names were disclosed.
"This was never just about numbers in a budget. It was about maintaining opportunities for our children, supporting the people who dedicate their lives to educating them, and preserving the strength and pride of our schools," Tracie Kennedy stated, highlighting the emotional and social implications of the budget cuts on the community.
"Public funding requires public money," said union president Cassondra Curiel to Mission Local during the February strike. "As long as we're not violating the law, I don't see what the problem is."
The last three months have been tumultuous in the district. The community was divided by a surprise move in January to add ethnic studies to the high school curriculum, a class that Chinese and Jewish families felt was discriminatory. When new board member Rowena Chiu said publicly she felt bullied by other "woke" school board members for questioning the class, all hell broke loose.

The New York Times ran a feature on Joe Ceballos this week, who is currently facing multiple charges of voter fraud just months after being re-elected mayor of Coldwater, Kansas, which has a population of 687. The 55-year-old Ceballos is now battling three counts of election perjury and three counts of voting without being qualified.
A New York City Board of Elections worker said it is not his job to report anyone when asked about processing registrations for non-citizens, hidden video footage shows. According to undercover video captured by Muckraker, in which its reporter attempted to pose as a non-citizen, a worker said he would process applications for non-citizens. "Once in a while ... we have people come in here ... and they register, they weren't a citizen," the worker told the reporter. When the reporter claimed to the worker that he was a green card holder from Canada, he was told he needed to be a citizen.
