CalAcademy's albino alligator 'Claude' has died after 30 years

Claude, the albino alligator that for decades was a mascot of the California Academy of Sciences, died on Tuesday, Dec. 2, the museum said. Claude had lived at the Academy for 17 years. His 30th birthday - a "Hatchday Celebration " - spanned an entire month. Claude's care team had been closely monitoring the alligator "due to a waning appetite," which led to him being moved to the Steinhart Aquarium to undergo treatment for a suspected infection, the museum said.
