A fault with the signalling system at Lewisham is causing disruption to services this morning, with trains running through the station subject to cancellations, delays or revisions until around 9am. The issue means services from Hither Green towards central London are currently unable to use platform 1 at Lewisham. As a result, trains heading towards central London from Sidcup and Sevenoaks are unable to call at Lewisham.

Rail services were halted after a massive fire broke out on train tracks between Peckham and Bermondsey on Tuesday evening, causing travel chaos for Londoners. The fire broke out between Queen's Road Peckham and South Bermondsey railway stations. Three fire engines and approximately 15 firefighters were rushed to the scene, trains were stopped in both directions and power was cut. In videos shared to social media, the huge fire can be seen illuminating the night sky.

East Midlands Railway is warning that some of its services will close from 8pm this evening (Thursday), and most of its branch lines will be closed on Friday. They expect to run a full service into London on Friday, but are relaxing ticket restrictions for those who want to delay their trip until Saturday. Chiltern Railways says it will run a restricted service from London Marylebone on Friday.

A low bridge in Leicestershire has regained the dubious honour of being the most bashed in Britain. Network Rail said the A5 Watling Street bridge in Hinckley was struck 22 times between 1 April 2024 and 31 March 2025. That placed it ahead of Harlaxton Road in Grantham, Lincolnshire, which was hit 18 times in the same period and Stuntley Road in Ely, Cambridgeshire, which saw 15 crashes.

Network Rail said a large section of the railway south of Peterborough will be closed between Saturday and Sunday. This was due to in-cab digital signalling being installed as part of a 1.4bn East Coast Digital Programme (ECDP), which aimed to create greener, safer and more reliable journeys for passengers. As a result, London North Eastern Railway (LNER) will have rail replacement coaches between Peterborough and Bedford, where customers can join train services to London St Pancras.

Monday morning rush hour commuters are facing disruption on the railways with an electricity failure disrupting trains in and out of London Victoria station. The problem between Victoria and Clapham Junction is preventing trains from leaving the depot, according to National Rail. It says the worst affected services are likely to include the Gatwick Express between London Victoria, Gatwick Airport and Brighton, along with multiple Southern trains. It says the issue is likely to last through to 10am.

Police in England on Sunday ruled out speculation that a mass stabbing on a passenger train that injured 11 people was a terrorist attack. "At this stage, there is nothing to suggest that this is a terrorist incident," British Transport Police Superintendent John Loveless told UK media. He continued: "At this early stage, it would not be appropriate to speculate on the causes of the incident."

All trains into London Stansted Airport have been cancelled or disrupted on Wednesday morning due to signalling issues, National Rail has confirmed. A fault with the signalling system has affected CrossCountry services between Birmingham New Street and Stansted, and Greater Anglia services to and from the airport and London Liverpool Street. The disruption is expected to continue until 08:00 BST, National Rail said, while there are also substantial delays on the M11 and M25 in Essex, potentially impacting passengers.
