Network Rail said a large section of the railway south of Peterborough will be closed between Saturday and Sunday. This was due to in-cab digital signalling being installed as part of a 1.4bn East Coast Digital Programme (ECDP), which aimed to create greener, safer and more reliable journeys for passengers. As a result, London North Eastern Railway (LNER) will have rail replacement coaches between Peterborough and Bedford, where customers can join train services to London St Pancras.

Monday morning rush hour commuters are facing disruption on the railways with an electricity failure disrupting trains in and out of London Victoria station. The problem between Victoria and Clapham Junction is preventing trains from leaving the depot, according to National Rail. It says the worst affected services are likely to include the Gatwick Express between London Victoria, Gatwick Airport and Brighton, along with multiple Southern trains. It says the issue is likely to last through to 10am.

Police in England on Sunday ruled out speculation that a mass stabbing on a passenger train that injured 11 people was a terrorist attack. "At this stage, there is nothing to suggest that this is a terrorist incident," British Transport Police Superintendent John Loveless told UK media. He continued: "At this early stage, it would not be appropriate to speculate on the causes of the incident."

All trains into London Stansted Airport have been cancelled or disrupted on Wednesday morning due to signalling issues, National Rail has confirmed. A fault with the signalling system has affected CrossCountry services between Birmingham New Street and Stansted, and Greater Anglia services to and from the airport and London Liverpool Street.
