A 33-year-old man held at Elmwood Correctional Facility was found unresponsive and declared dead; authorities report no apparent signs of violence and will investigate.
The 33-year-old man, who had been in custody since Feb. 14 after an arrest by the San Jose Police Department, was found unresponsive in his housing unit at 2:56 p.m., according to a press release from the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office. Medical personnel and jail staff performed CPR on the man until the arrival of emergency personnel from the Milpitas Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services at 3:09 p.m., authorities said.
