SANTA CRUZ - Santa Cruz law enforcement employed a drone equipped with thermal sensing technology to locate and apprehend a suspect fleeing from an attempted burglary last week. Santa Cruz police officers were dispatched Friday to a home near Coulson Avenue after receiving reports from a resident that someone was attempting to break in, according to a social media release from the city's police department. A small plane made an emergency landing in a field near Coast Road on Saturday just north of the Santa Cruz city limits. According to Cecile Juliette, a public information officer with the Cal Fire San Mateo-Santa Cruz Unit, the plane consisted of a pilot and a student and lost power over Scotts Valley, prompting an emergency landing.
