City officials said they were encouraging downtown businesses to allow employees to work from home or adjust their schedules to avoid the traffic they anticipate as fans head to the 11 a.m parade. Los Angeles Unified School District officials said that all schools will open as usual, but parents should allow extra time to get kids to class. "I encourage all Dodgers fans to plan ahead for the parade, be prepared and celebrate peacefully, safely and responsibly,"
This year's theme, "Potluck," invites everyone to bring something to the table-costumes, creativity or just good energy-because, as the organizers put it, "when we do it together and care for one another, there is enough for everyone." Expect a dazzling, chaotic mix of 50,000-plus zombies, witches, robots, Jedis and other creatures of the night marching up Sixth Avenue from King Street to 15th Street between 7 and 11pm.
"There is nothing like Carnival," Adams said. "We're excited about the music, the energy, the fashion, and fun that is associated with it. And this community knows how to throw on a great party, and we want to make sure that everyone can enjoy it in a very safe way." "This will be the largest police deployment of the year, even bigger than our deployments for New Year's Eve in Times Square, even bigger than our deployments for July 4," Tisch noted.
The parade in Crown Heights starts at Utica Avenue near Lincoln Terrace Park. It travels west on Eastern Parkway to Grand Army Plaza, ending near the Brooklyn Museum and Prospect Park. The roughly two-mile route is typically lined with more than a million spectators and has more than a dozen security checkpoints. Street closures for the festivities will begin Sunday and last through Monday, at the discretion of police, the New York City Department of Transportation says.
