Baldur's Gate 3 is a game that would make perfect sense on the Switch 2. Nintendo's console has mouse controls thanks to the new Joy-Con 2 controllers, and Larian's award-winning RPG would have been a great fit for its point-and-click capabilities. From the sound of it, the studio was down to bring Gale, Astarion, Shadowheart, and everyone else to Nintendo's platform, but someone got in the way.
On January 8, The Game Business reported that Switch 2 sales in the United States over the holiday shopping season of November and December were down around 35 percent when compared to those of the original Switch during its first Christmas back in 2017. This isn't too surprising considering the recent data released by retail tracker Circana, which indicated that U.S. console sales had their worst November since 1995.
Mario Kart World topped charts for months after the Switch 2 came out. Part of that is console bundles inflating the numbers, but Mario Kart was always going to sell regardless. Donkey Kong Bonanza performed well too, both games got good reviews and people actually bought them instead of just talking about them online. EA Sports FC 25 keeps showing up in sales data because football games always sell in the UK.
While many were battling big game service outages over the holiday, from Arc Raiders to Steam, I was battling Minecraft for the original Switch, which I bought for my kids because of the Mario add-on but which keeps crashing on startup. It's something fans have apparently dealt with for years, but I'm still shocked that a mash-up of two of the biggest franchises in gaming on the second-most-popular console ever is in such poor shape.
Microsoft has said it's committed to bringing Call of Duty to Nintendo Switch, and it could be coming as soon as next year. Reporter Jez Corden said "the first CoD Switch version is nearly done." He added that the game, whatever it is, will launch "in a few months." In another post, Corden said the release may not be "close" but it's "on the way" for a 2026 release.
"We've successfully brought back the classic era [Tomb Raider 1-6] and now the origin story of Lara Croft to modern Nintendo platforms," said Reese. "We can't announce anything at the moment, but the passionate response to this release is strong encouragement for us to continue exploring those possibilities."
Game-Key Cards have been divisive since they were first introduced, but the good news is that the full R-Type Dimensions 3 game will be on the Switch 2 cartridge. The bad news? You're going to have to pay a little bit extra for that side-scrolling shoot-'em-up, as the price is going up to €70. It's worth noting that those who already preordered the physical Special Edition will not see their price change.
Circana's Mat Piscatella reports that only 1.6 million new consoles were sold last month, including during Black Friday. That's just a few hundred thousand more than the 1995 low of 1.4 million. Perhaps just as surprisingly, the Switch 2 wasn't even the best-selling hardware in November. That honor went to the PS5, a console that's five years old and ended up not benefiting from the expected Grand Theft Auto 6 launch hype this year.
The Divinity series began with the decent enough action-RPG Divine Divinity in 2002, followed by the decidedly mediocre Beyond Divinity in 2004, which was slammed for its crappy story and lack of originality. Things didn't improve enormously in 2009 when Divinity II came out riddled with bugs, dragged down further by a poor Xbox 360 version, but they started to look up a year later when an improved and much-fixed re-release appeared and won people over.
Compulsion Games has announced that it's Xbox exclusive game will no longer be exclusive, as it's going to make the jump to other platforms in 2026. Compulsion delivered the news on X, revealing that in Spring 2026, South of Midnight will double-jump onto PlayStation. A Switch 2 version was also announced, although weirdly it wasn't mentioned in the tweet.
Capcom's long, long-delayed sci-fi shooter finally has a release date. It's headed your way on April 24, 2026 on Steam, PS5, Xbox Series X/S and - as Capcom confirmed in a trailer at The Game Awards - Nintendo Switch 2. You don't have to wait another four months to try it out, though. A gameplay demo is out now on Steam. It will be available for consoles at a later date.
Currently, Amazon is offering a refurbished model of the Nintendo Switch OLED at a massive discount. Going refurbished over new, normally will save you about $40 ($360 versus $400). However, right now for Cyber Week, the price has come down to just $310. You end up saving $75 wen compared to buying the Switch OLED new, and you can join the Nintendo ecosystem for $171 less than you'd pay buying a brand new Nintendo Switch 2.
Nintendo's latest console has only been in our hands for about six months, but it has been hugely successful. But more important than how it is selling is how many good games it already has. Along with the full Switch 1 library playable on the system, there are plenty of great native Switch 2 games, and more slated for the rest of the year.
Cyberpunk 2077 has sold over 35 million copies, developer CD Projekt Red announced Wednesday. The RPG crossed the sales milestone during the third quarter of 2025, the publisher said during its latest financial report. CD Projekt also reported improved revenue in Q3 2025 due to sales of Cyberpunk 2077 and its Phantom Liberty expansion.
When it was announced in September 2025, Pokemon Pokopia appeared to be the franchise's cozy-game answer to Animal Crossing and Minecraft. But after the recently released extended trailer for the game, fans have pointed out intriguing and dark links to some of the previous titles in the franchise. It's almost unsettling that one of the first things seen in the extended trailer is a devastated Pokemon Center and a generation-one Pokedex.
While previous Borderlands games were primarily set on the planet of Pandora--Borderlands 3 expanded on this with several more planets to visit--Borderlands 4 takes place on the world of Kairos, giving players free rein to cause some chaos as they take on the forces of the Timekeeper. Just like its predecessors, the key goal here is to take control of one of four unique Vault Hunters, grow their skills, and strengthen them further by finding powerful weapons and gear.
The most recent Switch 2 software update looks to have bricked many third-party docks and related accessories, according to users across the internet and a . We don't know if this was an intentional move by Nintendo or simply an accident. Engadget has reached out to the company for clarification. The Switch 2 update 21.0.0 brings some much-needed quality-of-life features, like the ability to turn off autoplaying videos in the eShop and new icons that indicate whether a game is digital or physical.
The developer promises "enhanced graphics in-line with PC" and 4K 60 fps gameplay when docked. This should be a night-and-day graphical upgrade when compared to the original Switch version. Perhaps the biggest news here is Camera Play integration. This is a feature exclusive to Nintendo's new console and it leverages a connected camera to throw up the faces of players under their avatars.
The hack-and-slash Warriors spin-offs on Nintendo Switch have been easy to skip. The arcade action can be fun and the character interactions rewarding for fans of the given franchise, but for the most part they've done little to break out of the fan service bubble. Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment might be different. Early reviews suggest the Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom spin-off isn't just a must-play for hardcore fans but a decent action game that new Switch 2 owners should be paying attention to.
First and foremost, online play has to be improved. Delay-based netcode in fighting games has been rendered obsolete, with virtually every major fighting franchise turning instead to rollback netcode, with incredible results. As impractical as it sounds, a full overhaul of Smash Bros. Ultimate's online environment, and a switch from delay-based netcode to rollback netcode, would need to be included in a Switch 2 Edition.
