Brad Hall's Team GB are next. They get off quick with 4.78 start but with perfection required this is a little short. There are a couple of errors in turns one and two, with speed not picking up further down the course. The time of 54.66secs is much better than their second run (55.04) but Lochner's team is further off in the distance, 1.23secs ahead.
"Coming out was a tough time for me," he admitted, adding: "The first ever person I told was actually a sports psychologist because I wasn't really performing very well." He continued: "I wasn't really enjoying my curling. But I really think that it helped me to feel comfortable within the team environment and now, 12 years later, I'm going to my second Olympics feeling pretty good about myself."
One of the great joys of being an Olympian is arriving at the athletes' village and, with it, the shift in your identity from just being a skeleton athlete to being a part of Team GB. There is a real belonging in putting on the T-shirt or jacket with your country's flag on, and of course with the Olympic rings a symbol of hope and peace and togetherness.
I've had a fantastic time opening the new Aldi this morning. It was an honour to officially open the store and welcome customers inside for the first time. It was great to speak with the children at Marden Lodge Primary School about the importance of eating healthily and how it can be fun to plan and prepare meals as a family.
