A new French migrant detention centre the UK has offered to help fund is facing a legal challenge that could hamper a 660m deal to tackle illegal crossings of the English Channel. The lawsuit could delay the opening of the centre, which the UK has only agreed to contribute money towards once the facility near Dunkirk has opened. The Home Office said funding for the centre from a 160m pot would be withdrawn if the deal was not delivering proven results within its first year.

A migrant who returned to the UK by small boat after being removed to France under the "one-in, one out" scheme has been removed again. Home Office sources said a returns flight on Wednesday morning included the man who was removed on 19 September, before he returned to the UK on 18 October. The man claimed to have been a victim of modern slavery at the hands of smuggling gangs in France.

The UK has returned the first asylum seeker to France under a one in, one out agreement to remove people who arrive on small boats, the Home Office has confirmed.
