Iran's United Nations ambassador Amir Saeed Iravani has written to the UN secretary-general and the president of the UN Security Council (UNSC), urging them to condemn unlawful threats towards Tehran from United States President Donald Trump amid ongoing protests in the country. The letter sent on Friday came hours after Trump said the US was locked and loaded and ready to go if any more protesters were killed in the ongoing demonstrations in Iran over the cost of living.
Addressing the UNSC, Somalia's UN ambassador, Abu Bakr Dahir Osman, implored members to firmly reject Israel's act of aggression, which he said not only threatened to fragment Somalia but also to destabilise the wider Horn of Africa and the Red Sea regions. Venezuela has told the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) that the United States has continental ambitions over much of Latin America as it wages an unofficial war to remove the government of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro. It's not just about Venezuela. The ambition is continental, Venezuela's UN ambassador, Samuel Moncada, told a meeting of the 15-member UNSC on Tuesday. The US government has expressed this in its National Security Strategy, which states that the future of the continent belongs to them, Moncada said.
The United Nations, led by the so-called European 3 -- Britain, France, and Germany -- appears set to reimpose wide-ranging "snapback" sanctions on Iran after the Security Council rejected a last-minute bid by Russia and China to delay the action. Absent an extraordinary 11th-hour deal, the UN will at 8 p.m. Eastern time on September 27 reintroduce a series of measures against Iran.
