Michigan began the day atop the college basketball hierarchy, enshrined during the March Madness bracket preview as the No. 1 overall seed. By day's end, the picture looked a little different, as No. 3 Duke's thrilling 68-63 win over the No. 1 Wolverines muddied up the race for the top spot in the NCAA Tournament bracket yet again. No. 4 Arizona threw its name into the hat with a 73-66 win at No. 2 Houston while playing without star forward Koa Peat.
Well, the first legs of the UEFA Champions League knockout playoffs are in the books, and we have a lot to review! From Real Madrid narrowly winning at Benfica (led by former Real boss Jose Mourinho), to Bodo/Glimt stunning Internazionale in the Arctic Circle and even holders Paris Saint-Germain rallying from 2-0 down to win 3-2 at fellow Ligue 1 side AS Monaco, we've seen it all. Oh, and how about Galatasaray scoring five against Juventus and Newcastle United hitting six at FK Qarabag?
The preamble from the reverse fixture two months ago bears repeating. Because, I mean, c'mon yet while this will be the 42nd 43rd time the Premier League leaders have played the side propping up the entire table - winning 30 out of 41 31 out of 42, with seven draws who are responsible for two of the four historical shocks? Why, Wolverhampton Wanderers, that's who! Click below to reminisce, my old MBM pals.
The new AP Top 25 women's college basketball poll is out. And for the second time since the calendar turned to 2026, change ruled the rankings after a slew of upsets over the past week. The Texas Longhorns suffered their first loss of the season, leaving just three undefeated Division I teams: the UConn Huskies, Vanderbilt Commodores and Texas Tech Lady Raiders. The LSU Tigers, who beat Texas, were the biggest climber, up six spots to No. 6.
Oklahoma, its playoff hopes on the brink, rode into Tuscaloosa and exposed the flaws in Alabama's seemingly impenetrable armor with a relentless defense that tormented Ty Simpson and nabbed a trio of takeaways. Florida, having shed the weight of a coach forever on the hot seat, went to Oxford with sights set on an upset, pushing Ole Miss well into the fourth quarter.
For those MLS fans out there who want some stunning and surprising upsets, they'll have to wait just a bit longer in this year's playoffs. In the Western Conference, the top four seeds went through with San Diego FC, the Vancouver Whitecaps, LAFC and Minnesota United FC all surpassing lower seeds, and in the case of Los Angeles and Vancouver, they needed just two games to win their series.
Watching the 49ers celebrate after stopping the Rams on a game-deciding fourth-and-1 run Thursday night, I simply couldn't form an explanation for how the Rams had managed to blow what should have been an easy victory over their injury-riddled division rivals. It felt like the Rams could have done whatever they wanted on offense, and a limping Mac Jones' only reliable target was Kendrick Bourne on the 49ers' side.
The fourth round of the League Cup has already served up some marvellous entertainment. Diego Gomez's long-drive-heavy four-goal haul; two fine assists for Federico Chiesa and the daftest of red cards for Hugo Ekitike; a first win of the season for Wolves; Lincoln forcing Chelsea to dig deep; third-tier Cardiff's win at Burnley.
