Cornell University unveiled its first Level 3 electric vehicle fast-charging station on March 11, marking a significant advancement in its sustainability efforts. Named the Abruña Energy Initiative (AEI) after founder Héctor Abruña, the initiative aims to enhance clean transportation access. The station, located at Fleet Services parking lot, facilitates quick charging for electric vehicles, exemplified by Interim President Michael Kotlikoff’s experience of charging his car from 40% to 80% in around 15 minutes. The initiative underscores Cornell's commitment to renewable energy and innovation in campus transportation.
I thank everyone here for all the parts you've done in creating this. I can't wait to see campus-to-campus hydrogen-powered buses, the next embodiment of how Cornell is moving forward in energy.
By making available a Level 3 battery charger... the intent is to bring to the Cornell community access to fast-charging infrastructure as well as a fleet of battery-powered vehicles.
