The Frick Collection has reopened following a transformative five-year, $220 million renovation that has nearly doubled its gallery footprint. This renovation includes the introduction of 10 new galleries and improved accessibility features, allowing for a better display of its renowned art collection. Notable works by Vermeer, Velazquez, Rembrandt, and Goya can now be seen in a revitalized environment. The mansion’s historically significant second floor has been restored, presenting visitors with antique furniture and decor that enrich the museum's narrative. Members can preview the collection on specific dates before the general public opening.
"This is going to be a unique opportunity to see new spaces, more works of art, great new areas of the collection and to understand the house as a whole in a much, much better way," said Xavier Salomon, deputy director and Peter Jay Sharp chief curator at the Frick Collection.
"This is a unique museum: it's unique for New York ... [and] it's unique for the world," Solomon said. "It's the house of someone who lived at the end of the 19th, early 20th century, with an incredible collection, top quality, and everything has been preserved, more or less intact."
