Architectural Pottery, established in 1950 by Max and Rita Lawrence, emerged from a desire to complement the post-war Modernist architecture of Southern California. Striving against the prevailing pseudo-historic design trends, the couple, along with designers John Follis and Rex Goode, created innovative ceramic pieces predominant in biomorphic and geometric styles. Their work gained exposure in significant exhibitions, including one at the Museum of Modern Art. An exhibition at the American Museum of Ceramic Art showcases their legacy, highlighting the impact of their ceramics on mid-century design.
