Songzhuang Z Museum / TEAM BLDG
Briefly

The Z Museum, located in Songzhuang Village, Zhejiang Province, is set deep within the mountains, emphasizing the preservation of its traditional character. Initiated by TEAM_BLDG in early 2024, the museum is the first in China dedicated to weaving, transforming a previously uninhabited brick-and-concrete house. Rather than downplaying the building's modernity, the team aimed to enhance its distinctness, creating a visual dialogue with the village's historical architecture, thus celebrating both contemporary art and local cultural heritage.
The transformation of an old residential house in Songyang County into the Z Museum seeks to enhance the contrast between modern architecture and traditional village aesthetics.
In designing the Z Museum, the operator emphasized that the building's distinctive modernity should be embraced, creating a memorable visual dialogue with Songyang's historical architecture.
The Z Museum represents a unique blend of contemporary art and traditional culture, showcasing the rich tapestry of weaving within a rural context.
TEAM_BLDG approached the Z Museum project by utilizing a deconstructive design strategy, reinforcing the existing structure's unique features while integrating art into the contextual landscape.
