On the night of the murder, several people in the Wallace Avenue area heard a female screaming for help and what sounded like hitting noises. Two witnesses saw Austin attacking Rhone, kicking and stomping on her upwards of 20 times as she lay in and out of consciousness.
Austin admitted he went psycho and beat Rhone because she did not listen to him, highlighting a troubling element of domestic violence whereby the abuser justifies their violent actions.
