Briefly

The Alameda County District Attorney's Office has charged Lawrence Holley, 48, with multiple offenses including felony assault after he attacked an Oakland police officer. The incident, which occurred on Friday, was described by District Attorney Ursula Jones Dickson as alarming, highlighting the need to protect those who serve the community. Holley is currently held on $150,000 bail, with the police officer recovering after being hospitalized. The Oakland Police Officers Association stressed the urgency of hiring more officers to enhance community safety following this attack.
If we are asking the police to protect us, then we must also protect them when they are the victim of an unprovoked assault. said Jones Dickson in a statement accompanying her announcement.
Today, we have filed felony assault charges that reflect the outrageous nature and seriousness of the case.
The union's president, Huy Nguyen, suggested that we need more cops, we need more equipment and we need a commitment from city leaders to make Oakland safe to prevent similar incidents.
Holley was being held Tuesday afternoon at the Santa Rita Jail on $150,000 bail.
