Review: Amy Schumer's delivers laughs with extreme comedy in 'Kinda Pregnant'
Briefly

Amy Schumer’s latest Netflix film, "Kinda Pregnant," showcases her trademark blend of self-delusion and absurdity. The film follows Lainy, played by Schumer, who has been fixated on motherhood since childhood. On what she thinks is the night of her marriage proposal, her boyfriend instead suggests a threesome, leading to a series of comedic and outrageous moments. Schumer’s extreme performance fuels the humor, as she wholeheartedly engages with the absurdity of her character’s actions, highlighting the film's core theme of self-deception in relationships with humor and rage.
The key to any Amy Schumer comedy is how often she gets to play self-delusion, embarrassment, fear and rage. As long as the emotions, terrors and humiliations are big, she's funny.
The Netflix film is a lightweight comedy that doesn't aspire to do much other than to incite laughs, but what makes it a little better than merely functional is its willingness to be extreme.
It's the perfect set-up for several things Schumer does best... when she finds out the proposal her boyfriend is making is for a threesome, she becomes enraged and smashes the cake into her face.
So that when Lainy's married best friend tells her that she's pregnant and Lainy growls "Get rid of it," instead of being offended by the comment, we laugh for two reasons simultaneously.
