Weeks-old seal reportedly turns up on New Haven streets, twice
Briefly

A young gray seal was discovered wandering the streets of New Haven and was rescued by Mystic Aquarium staff after being relocated from a busy area near Shell & Bones Oyster Bar. After being sighted again on the streets, officials acknowledged the unusual nature of a seal venturing so far inland. Mystic Aquarium's Francesca Battaglia emphasized the seal's disorientation, likely after being driven from its beach habitat. Slightly underweight, the seal will be rehabilitated at the aquarium before being released, as staff aim to ensure it can effectively hunt in the wild.
"It definitely was concerning for us when we say he was amidst all that hustle and bustle of the city," Mystic Aquarium animal rescue technician Francesca Battaglia told WTNH.
"I checked with one of our bosses, who's been here for like 25 years, and then asked him, you know, 'If you'd ever heard of this before?'" said police officer Christian Bruckhart.
"He is on his own now, and he's just trying to figure it out. But he's a young animal," Battaglia told NBC Connecticut.
"We want him to be able to hunt on his own and catch what he needs to support himself," Battaglia stated.
