Lemark Jaramillo, 32, was fatally shot by an off-duty police officer at a Chick-fil-A on Boylston Street after allegedly chasing two individuals with a knife. The incident occurred when the officer, present in the restaurant, identified himself and ordered Jaramillo to drop the weapon. After failing to comply, Jaramillo was shot and later pronounced dead at a local hospital. His family expressed sorrow for his actions and conveyed condolences to the officer involved, highlighting a complex narrative surrounding the incident which is now under investigation by the Suffolk County District Attorney's office.
"We don't look for loss of life, so our condolences go to the individual who was killed tonight," Boston Police Commissioner Michael Cox said during a press conference after the shooting.
"He is not a bad person," the family member told the station. "He is not a violent person. As his family, we feel horrible for anyone who was in the restaurant at the time."
