"It's an honor to be able to showcase this quilt during this year's quilt show as we approach the 24th anniversary of Sept. 11."
"People think it's a group of little old ladies sitting around sewing... It's a huge room filled with people, and it's kind of a business meeting."
The Brooklyn Quilters Guild's biennial quilt show took place at BKloft26 in Sunset Park, featuring contributions from nearly 100 members. The event showcased about 200 quilts, workshops, and a silent auction. A standout piece was the 'Star of Honor Memorial Quilt,' honoring 9/11 victims. Members dispelled stereotypes about quilting by highlighting the guild's vibrant community spirit and collaborative creativity. This celebration of quilting served not only as an exhibition but also as a reminder of resilience and remembrance as the anniversary of September 11 approaches.
