"What started as a "verbal altercation" led to a shooting, a fatal car crash and kidnapping in the early hours of Tuesday, Oct. 7 in Montclair, the Montclair Police Department said. Three people were involved in an argument with another person in the north end of Montclair, a police statement said. The group of three left the area by car and was chased by the other person, a 40-year-old man driving a white SUV, police said."
"He reportedly shot at the group of victims. When the victims and suspect reached the 9700 block of Benson Avenue, an area near 4th Street and Buena Vista Elementary, where the suspect rammed into the victims' vehicle, which then crashed into a tree around 12:45 a.m. Footage from ABC7 shows the damaged silver sedan on the sidewalk after the crash into the tree."
A verbal altercation in the north end of Montclair early Oct. 7 escalated into a shooting, vehicle pursuit, and a fatal crash. Three people argued with another person; the group left by car and was pursued by a 40-year-old man in a white SUV who reportedly fired at them. On the 9700 block of Benson Avenue the suspect rammed the victims' vehicle, which crashed into a tree around 12:45 a.m. Two victims tried to flee; one was kidnapped but later escaped in Ontario and was hospitalized. One victim remained unaccounted for and one was pronounced dead at the hospital. All involved were known to one another.
