On January 14, a call was made to the Mendocino Volunteer Fire Department about an unresponsive man on the beach, later identified as Douglas Craig Shapiro.
After being assessed by an off-duty physician, Douglas Craig Shapiro was pronounced dead at the scene, believed to be the result of a fall from a cliff.
Authorities stated that Shapiro's injuries were consistent with a fall, leading to a coroner's investigation to confirm the manner of death.
Deputies have ruled out foul play, and further examination by a forensic pathologist will determine the exact cause of Shapiro's death.
