Officials revealed that the Santa Ynez Reservoir was closed for repairs, leaving the area without 117 million gallons of water during a devastating wildfire.
Numerous hydrants in high-elevation streets ran dry, despite called improvements in water systems, leaving firefighters struggling with low pressure against the flames.
Adams, a former DWP general manager, stated that although the reservoir could have helped with pressure, it wouldn’t have been a complete solution to the water shortage.
A DWP spokesperson emphasized the ongoing assessment of the situation and acknowledged that the water supply system wasn't optimized for the unprecedented wildfire demands.
