Shoppers on alert after Valley Fair Macy's smash-and-grab, 2nd major crime at mall in recent weeks
"The mall is a place since the 80s that families come together, have fun, grab a snack and shop - and to see someone with a sledge hammer, I would've been terrified,"
"In the process of the strong-arm robbery, I know that they were able to smash the glass and take miscellaneous items,"
"We do appreciate people coming forward with witness statements and providing evidence that supports,"
"We do, however, emphasize the importance of being safe. Public safety and the safety of others is a priority, so we do want to emphasize that."
Three masked men wearing ski masks entered Macy's at the Valley Fair mall on a busy Sunday afternoon and used hammers to smash display cases to steal expensive watches. Broken glass and Rolex signage remained in empty cases the following day. A loss-prevention employee intercepted one suspect, and at least one shopper removed a suspect's backpack during the suspects' flight. San Jose Police are investigating the strong-arm robbery and have urged public safety while thanking witnesses who provided statements and evidence. The incident followed a gang-related Black Friday shooting at the same mall about six weeks earlier, increasing concern among visitors.
