Dec. 27 Retail property theft: Someone entered a store on South Bascom Avenue and stole approximately $790 worth of fragrances before fleeing in a silver SUV. Dec. 26 Vehicle theft: Between Dec. 24 and Dec. 26, someone stole a van on Shannon Palms Lane.
Durham police say they have made 64 arrests and laid 155 charges during a safe shop initiative to stop retail theft. They say the five-week initiative, which ran between Nov. 10 and Dec. 16, was focused on retail theft enforcement. Police say the east division community response unit, alongside front-line officers and the LCBO resource protection unit worked together to identify high theft locations across Durham region.

Retail Theft, Child Abuse: Two suspects worked together on South Bascom Avenue to steal merchandise and fled in a red GMC truck. They had children in the vehicle who were not in car seats. Possession of Stolen Vehicle, Driving Under the Influence: Someone was located driving a stolen vehicle at Hamilton and Leigh avenues. The suspect displayed signs and symptoms of alcohol and drug intoxication, and was in possession of suspected crystal methamphetamine. The suspect was arrested and booked into Santa Clara County Main Jail.
An armed Santa Claus joined American Canyon police as they arrested two Vallejo residents last week accused of stealing 24 Christmas trees and two crates of wreaths from a local Safeway. Joshua Gonzales, 39, and Kayla Daniels, 29, were taken into custody at their home Thursday, according to a Dec. 5 Facebook post from police that included video of the unusual holiday-themed arrest.
Pokemon cards are as hot as they've ever been, and unfortunately for a local card shop in California, it means their merchandise was the target of a recent heist. On December 2, thieves targeted LA Sports Cards in Burbank and made off with $100,000 or more in Pokemon cards and other collectibles. The trio of thieves were captured on camera in KTLA 5's video report below.
Someone stole approximately 66 items worth about $2,000 in a store on South Bascom Avenue. The person who reported the theft discovered it after noticing bare shelves in the store. Possession of Stolen Property, Possession of a Controlled Substance to Sell: A peace officer stopped two suspects on East Campbell Avenue and determined they were in possession of stolen merchandise. One was found to be in possession of a controlled substance for sale and in possession of someone else's private identifying information.
Daylight Saving Time has ended and with that comes an inevitable uptick in crime. Statistics suggest that as evenings get dark earlier, robberies and burglaries increase under cover of night. It was one of the many safety issues that Oakland police Capt. Aaron Smith discussed with citizens at Sunday's "Coffee with a Cop" event at Peet's Coffee & Tea in the Oakland hills' Montclair Village district.

Police said a group of suspects crashed a pick-up truck into the Louis Vuitton store on East Walton Street. Cellphone video from a witness captured the moment thieves rammed the vehicle into the luxury store. The video then shows a group of people dressed in dark clothing rush into the store and then run out with stolen items. The people are then seen getting into other vehicles that were either parked nearby or that pulled up.
