UCLA has appointed LAPD Cmdr. Steve Lurie as the new associate vice chancellor of its Office of Campus Safety, a position created after a violent altercation last spring. Lurie, who has extensive law enforcement experience and a strong connection to the campus as an alumnus and law professor, aims to implement a collaborative approach regarding campus safety. Chancellor Julio Frenk emphasizes the need for policies that are effective and equitable, ensuring the well-being of all UCLA community members.
I am honored and excited to return to my alma mater in this new role. As a proud alum, I recognize the impact my UCLA education has had on my professional journey.
Our goal is to ensure that our policies and practices are not only effective but also equitable, respecting the safety, rights and well-being of all Bruins.
