The Canadian government is introducing a $6 billion aid package aimed at assisting businesses affected by U.S. President Trump’s tariffs. Key measures include $5 billion dedicated to helping exporters access new markets, along with a $500 million loan program focused on tariffs' impacts. Additionally, there is a $1 billion boost to agricultural financing and an easing of employment insurance rules to support workers. Finance Minister Dominic LeBlanc emphasized that the government is ready to adapt to the evolving trade situation and will customize its response as necessary.
The government is providing $5 billion over two years for exporters to help them find new markets beyond the U.S. and a $500-million loan program through the Business Development Bank of Canada for businesses directly impacted by the tariffs.
As part of the supports for businesses, Ottawa is also boosting the financing program for the agricultural sector to the tune of $1 billion.
